Road Maintenance
The roads throughout Sunset Forest are a compacted gravel mixture and, like all types of roads, must be maintained and occasionally improved. Sunset Forest roads are private and not maintained by the City of Mackinac Island or the Mackinac State Park. In 2022 our Association’s Road Committee completed a multi-year program to repair and regravel all the major roads starting at the Stonecliffe gate. Annual road maintenance continues to be conducted where repairs and grading are needed. Annual dues from the neighborhood developments fund this maintenance. Direct any road concerns to the President of your development.
Snow Plowing
Mackinac Island allows snowmobile use during the winter and while they need snow to operate, the Sunset Forest roads must be plowed to a certain degree to allow access by emergency vehicles. Sunset Forest roads are private and not maintained by the City of Mackinac Island or the Mackinac Island State Park. Our Association’s Road Committee manages the snowplowing and annual dues from the neighborhood developments fund this service. Direct any plowing concerns to the President of your development.
Street Lamps
Stylish yet simple street lamps appear throughout Sunset Forest. The particular style of lamp was chosen for our community as it provided only downward illumination and would protect the view of the night sky.
Property owners engaged in new construction are encouraged to sponsor the purchase and installation of a new street lamp at their property. Direct any street lamp questions or concerns to the President of your development. Our Association’s Road Committee manages the operation of the street lamps.
